Takács Quartet; Steven Osborne piano
The Takács Quartet, Wigmore Hall Associate Artist, draws out the lines of influence between compositions by Mozart and Mendelssohn and Ravel and Franck in this alluring programme. It begins with the third of Mozart’s ‘Prussian’ Quartets, an extroverted work crammed with glorious melodies, set in company with the F minor String Quartet by Mendelessohn, who was recognised during his childhood as ‘the second Mozart’. Steven Osborne, recipient of the Royal Philharmonic Society Instrumentalist of the Year award, prefaces the post-interval dive into the turbulent waters of César Franck’s Piano Quintet with Ravel’s spellbinding Sonatine.
