Sol Gabetta cello; Kristian Bezuidenhout piano

📍 Wigmore Hall · London

Sol Gabetta cello; Kristian Bezuidenhout piano
Sol Gabetta, among the most eloquent of all advocates for Felix Mendelssohn’s cello works, devotes the first half of her recital with Kristian Bezuidenhout to music composed in the mid-1800s. Robert Schumann stipulated that his poetic Fantasiestücke, conceived for clarinet, could also be played on the cello, thereby adding three engrossing pieces to the instrument’s Romantic repertoire. The duo crowns its programme with the compelling dialogue of Brahms’s lyrical Cello Sonata No. 1 in E minor Op. 38.
