Leila Josefowicz violin; John Novacek piano
Leila Josefowicz, a long-time champion and friend of John Adams, offers the chance to explore the three pulsating movements of the composer’s Road Movies. The work’s title, he notes, ‘is total whimsy, probably suggested by the “groove” in the piano part, all of which is required to be played in a “swing” mode’. The American Canadian violinist’s programme includes two equally vibrant scores by Stravinsky and Janáček and Paraphrases, Colin Matthews’s lively dialogue for violin and piano, written for Leila Josefowicz and first performed by her at the 2025 Aldeburgh Festival.
