Francesca Dego violin; Alessandro Taverna piano; Alessandro Carbonare clarinet
Francesca Dego’s Wigmore Hall Residency continues with a celebration of American music and the part played by the United States in supporting émigré musicians. She is joined by two superb Italian artists in a programme shot through with bold melodies. They open with a rarely performed gem by Giancarlo Menotti, given to commemorate the 20th anniversary of his death, unleash the devilish energy of the Suite Stravinsky made from his Soldier’s Tale, and close with the work Bartók recorded with Benny Goodman and Joseph Szigeti soon after he found refuge in America in 1940.
