Join Raquel Cecilia Mendieta to discover these powerful film works - ritualistic scenes characterised by their poignancy and beauty Explore Ana Mendieta ’s film and video work from the 1970s. Introduced by Raquel Cecilia Mendieta, the programme explores two key themes in Mendieta's practice. Screenings of Source (1975), Door Piece (1973) and Silueta del Laberinto (1974) emphasise her interest in the body, and its absence. The elemental qualities of earth, fire, wind and water are made visible through screenings of Flower Person, Flower Body (1975), Burial Pyramid (1974), Weather Balloon, Feathered Balloon (1974), Untitled: Silueta Series (1978) and Untitled: Silueta Series (1979) Typically created outdoors with natural materials, Ana Mendieta recorded her ephemeral works through photography and film. Using materials including earth, water, fire and blood, she explored questions of displacement and identity and the relationship between the body and landscape. The evening concludes with reflections from Raquel Cecilia Mendieta (the Estate of Ana Mendieta) and Elsa Collinson (Assistant Curator, International Art), followed by audience Q+A.
