Chineke! Orchestra: Hailstork + After Dark

His Suites Nos.1 and 2 for chamber orchestra are masterpieces of rhythm, colour and orchestral texture. Joaquín Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez was inspired by the fountains and gardens of the palace of Aranjuez. São Paulo-born guitarist Plínio Fernandes joins the orchestra for this cornerstone of the classical guitar concerto repertoire. We close with the First Symphony by Adolphus Hailstork, one of the most celebrated living composers in the US. Originally commissioned for a summer music festival, the work takes you on a journey from contemplative introspection to vibrant celebration.
