In focus: Albrecht Dürer

Join us for an in-depth exploration of the life and work of the great German Renaissance artist, Albrecht Dürer, in a two-hour session complementing our course 'The story of painting'. Born in Nuremberg in 1471, Dürer was one of the leading painters, draftsmen and printmakers of his day. Combining Northern naturalism with Italian theories of proportion and perspective, he helped shape a new visual language grounded in observation and geometry, and transformed the possibilities of printmaking through works of exceptional technical precision and intellectual depth. Dürer’s influential treatises and celebrated self‑portraits further advanced the status of the artist as a learned creator, securing his place as one of the most innovative and widely influential artists of early modern Europe.
