Wise Blood

A remarkable later work from director John Huston, Wise Blood’s reputation continues to grow, as does the astonishing performances of its two leads. Huston’s acclaimed and darkly witty adaptation of Flannery O’Connor’s debut novel vividly brings to life a world of American eccentricity through its chronicle of spirituality and evangelicalism. Dourif gives a career-best performance as Hazel Motes, an ex-soldier-turned-atheist preacher who attempts to found the first Church Without Christ in the imaginary Alabama city of Taulkinham. Stanton perfectly complements him, playing a sidewalk preacher feigning blindness.
