The Last Days of Disco
Kate Beckinsale and Chloë Sevigny shine as best friends bouncing between the dancefloor and the office, with writer-director Whit Stillman’s trademark wit propelling them through their yuppie social circles. Two recent graduates find themselves behind the velvet ropes of Manhattan’s exclusive nightclubs, where they enter a world of romantic entanglements, class disparity and gender politics. Looking back on the end of the disco era with a wry raised eyebrow, Stillman brilliantly skewers the transactional relationships of yuppiedom. Beneath the mirror ball and between the lines of politely damning dialogue, a deliciously dry comedy, with more than a little bite, emerges. See our Seniors’ screening of Whit Stillman’s Barcelona.
