Dr Anthony Thomas McKenna, of Liverpool John Moores University, discusses his study on the film that proved Elvis Presley could act and which is now regarded as his finest screen work. He traces the project from its inception and Elvis’ casting through to the film’s promotion and reception. Financially disappointing, the film nevertheless drew plaudit’s for Elvis’ performance and the film is admired for its depiction of 1950s youth culture. Tickets £6.50.
