Cabaret
A British writer finds himself entangled in the seductive, sparkling world of Sally Bowles, a nightclub singer in a Berlin teetering on the edge of fascism. Merging the queer sensuality of Christopher Isherwood’s Goodbye to Berlin with the spectacle of Kander and Ebb’s stage show, Fosse presents 1930s Germany drenched in hedonism and gleeful degeneracy, but threatened by the spectre of fascism. Minnelli channels her inner Louise Brooks as the free-spirited, wildly talented Sally Bowles, delivering witticisms with a wink as she is dragged down by a changing world – but not before a parting song.
